Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson disclosed he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two safety personnel crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The concerning event occurred on the third rotation when safety workers were spotted on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to change his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Immediately after, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his team engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two individuals running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, honestly, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Evidently there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a live track marshals can be permitted to just run across the track like that. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm confident we'll get some form of reasoning, but this must never be repeated"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

Formula 1's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was advised that fragments were located on the track at the apex of that corner" stated the governing body

"During the third lap, track officials were informed and put on alert to access the circuit and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the orders to send officials were rescinded and a double yellow flag was displayed in that section"

"We are still investigating what happened subsequent to that time"
