Patriots Match Best Winning Streak From Tom Brady Era with Win Against New York Jets
Rookie Henderson has scored five scores this season
The New England Patriots equaled their best victory streak since the Brady period as they defeated AFC East opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Tom Brady's final season with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Maye passed for 281 yards and a score, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The win extends the New England's advantage at the summit of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York bottom after slipping to two wins and eight losses
The opposing team had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to cap the New York's first possession
But the Patriots responded in the second period as the rookie scored two short rushing scores before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone in the middle of the third quarter to make it 21 to 7
"It was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of Henderson. "He wants to be outstanding."
Fields found John Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the final period as the home side sealed the triumph
